MLB Star Adrian Beltre To Make Rare Las Vegas Appearance

Adrian Beltre - Las Vegas

The Legacy Sports Cards shop will host Texas Rangers slugger Adrian Beltre in a rare Las Vegas appearance on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Legacy shop, 8125 W. Sahara Ave, Suite 160. A portion of the proceeds from the autographs will go to Children’s Cancer Research.

Marcel Bilak, the owner of Legacy Sports Cards says that Beltre’s visit is a dream come true.” Beltre was the one player that got me excited about baseball and actually inspired me to go into the sports card and memorabilia business”, says Bilak. “It doesn’t happen often that an active player of this caliber would make a public appearance to meet fans and sign autographs. His Las Vegas fans are very lucky”

Beltre, 34, currently stars at third base with the Texas Rangers. He made his first Major League appearance in 1998 with the Los Angeles Dodgers where he starred through 2004. He followed that with five years with the Mariners, a year stint in Boston in 2010, and Texas beginning in the 2011 season. Beltre is a three time All-Star, four time Golden Glove Winner, and the NL home run king in 2004. To date he has .282 career batting average with 376 home runs, and 1,3017 RBIs.

A portion of the proceeds of Beltre’s appearance will go to Childrens Cancer Research. Advanced autograph tickets can be purchased at www.legacysportscards.com or at the Legacy Sports Card shop.

After The Lap Is A Fans Checkered Flag

Having been to the past two After The Lap events, I can attest to thrills and chills a person can get from being around the greatest NASCAR racers in the world. This year it is even better because Las Vegas’ very own Kurt and Kyle Busch will be in attendance.

To me, and I am only speaking for me, I absolutely love the burnout. 13 drivers doing burnouts on the strip–phenom!!! This is from last year..

And unlike any other sports, the drivers let you get up-close and personal with them and their beasts. These guys are just regular dudes that love to talk, PLUS sign autographs for as many hands as they can get to. This year you might wanna get close to Jimmie Johnson, who is well on his way to becoming the most decorated drivers in the history of the sport. Not many guys come through like Johnson, who mixes amazing driving with just enough charisma to draw in fans from all over the world.

That brings me to the After the Lap party. That is where all the drivers get up on stage to share stories and drinks with the crowd. They let you in on the what goes in the pits and on the track. And if there has been a problems between any of the guys, they will talk about that too. It is a loose, free-wheeling night of laughter, booze and…..a more booze–haha. I jest, but it is as fun as any event I have ever attended.

You can—–No you must be part of this!

It comes up this Thursday at 5pm in the Pearl Palms Concert Theatre inside the Palms Casino Hotel. Fans can purchase tickets at www.NASCARAfterTheLap.com for $20 each (all ticket proceeds benefit The NASCAR Foundation) to attend the fan-favorite event featuring all 13 NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers. Among the many highlights from NASCAR After The Lap’s humorous history are Jeff Gordon (absolutely hilarious) break dancing and Denny Hamlin doing “The Dougie.” The event will be broadcast live on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90 and www.NASCAR.com will live-stream the event.

Driver scheduled to appear:

Jimmie Johnson
Matt Kenseth
Kevin Harvick
Kyle Busch
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Jeff Gordon
Clint Bowyer
Joey Logano
Greg Biffle
Kurt Busch
Ryan Newman
Kasey Kahne
Carl Edwards

News and notes from the desert

O’k so I’m not gone. I just can’t let go. So let’s go over a few happenings around town.

First off, I think it sucked that the NHL awards were moved to Chicago this year. They’ll be back next year, but it still sucks. That’s what a lockout will do for ya.

I know UNLV’s Anthony Bennett was a good player, but the #1 pick in the NBA draft! I don’t think he’ll have the same impact that Grandmama has 22 years ago. Before injuries broke him down, Larry Johnson was an impact player. I think Bennett will be a good player, but he is more of a complimentary guy then a lead dog. Just my opinion, and I will be more than happy to eat crow if I am wrong.

The Wranglers are bringing back Chris Francis. The Vegas native signed a deal keeping him in his hometown. Francis had 21 goals and 48 points last year in the desert.

I didn’t catch a game this year, but the Sin has taken a step back from last season. The Legends of football girls are 1-2, after starting last season 3-0. Records don’t always tell the whole story, but it is what it is. They play Seattle coming up Saturday at 8pm. I can tell you from attending every game last season, the games are as exciting as any I have ever seen. Go check it out.

Thank you Showgirlz for rocking & rolling

With my time in Las Vegas fast approaching its finale, I had to do one more video story. It was an easy choice me so I headed out one final time to watch the Las Vegas Showgirlz, led by Coach Dion Lee. Ever since I stared this blog over a year ago Lee has allowed me as much access as possible. Whether it was as the coach of the Showgirlz or the Las Vegas Sin, Lee always went out of his way to make sure I got any interview or footage I needed.

Tonight was a Showgirlz domination, unless a 38-0 lead at the half isn’t enough for you. Every girl wearing blue was at the top of their game, including the ageless Carrie Walters, who along with her supreme athletic talent, uses her brain too. Before you start questioning my videography skillz I was adjusting the camera when Walters grabbed the spotlight.

That was the first of many 1st half scores. I’m glad that Walters got the first one. If you have never seen her play, or met her then you are missing out. Heart out on every play, a smile after every game. Thanks for making my job easy Carrie.

Another impressive performance was turned in from a girl I have never seen play, Nicole Dickson. Dickson was all over the field, taking down players with bone-crunching hits, or on offense running past and over players. She did receive a great clear out block from a teammate. Still, damn fine performance Nicole.

I don’t think anyone impressed me more than Jennifer Cowan. Stupidly, I never made an effort to meet Cowan but I can only guess she is just as impressive off the field as she is/was on it. Tonight, Cowan was a one-woman wrecking crew. Ahh, you can check it out yourself.

To me, no woman’s football story would be complete without mentioning Yvette Tanner. Yvette was one of the first people I interviewed when I began writing and have remained friends since. A full-time mom, worker and football player, Yvette is awesome. Yeah I said it. She was just inches away from sacking the QB a number of times tonight, but I did get her laying a few hits on her anyway.

With the way Coach Lee has these Girlz prepared, the games are always fun. Tonight was no different. The final score wasn’t important to me, watching and covering these hard-working, hard-charging woman was.

Thanks everyone for letting me cover you.

Oh yeah, I used to put all my pictures up on Facebook, but recently some jack weed flagged me so they shut my Vegassportsgab page down. Considering all the video was mine, and all pictures were used with permission, I don’t understand why that was done. Maybe it’s a sign that I gotta go.

Thanks again!!
